Walking The Boards: London's West End

The West End of London refers to the London theatre district within central London, north of the River Thames. In which you will also find London’s main tourist attractions and the most built up and busiest areas of the city including Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Regent Street, Shaftesbury Avenue and Bond Street. Within London’s West End you will find shops, restaurants, business, government buildings and entertainment venues.

The History Of London’s West End

Back in medieval times, London was split into two separate cities that were joined together – the City of London to the east and the City of Westminster to the west. Over time, they began to form the centre of modern London. Beforehand, each city had its own unique way of life. The City of London became the place of banking, financial and legal sectors whereas Westminster attracted tourists and became associated with shopping, leisure and entertainment attractions. This gave birth to the modern West End and defined what it is today.
